INTERVIEW

Tim & Kimberly Powers
As founders/directors of Walk The Talk, Tim and Kimberly see up close and personal how God is impacting life-change in teens’ lives. Through inspirational conference ministry on the front lines with teens, God’s Spirit works powerfully as hearts are opened and minds are challenged with God’s truth.
Interview with Kimberly & Tim

What was the trigger that caused you to start ministering specifically to teen girls?

Response: Tim and I had been presenting conferences for guys and girls for several years. At the conclusion of the events we noticed the remarkable number of teen girls wanting desperately to share their hearts and find answers to many, many questions. They really needed hope and someone to believe in them. Girls were sharing so many specific struggles. They were hurting. We saw them desiring help, but it needed to be presented in an intimate setting where their hearts and emotions were considered. They needed God’s truth spoken in their language.

What makes the conferences so effective?

Response: The weekends are completely based on God’s truth and backed by constant prayer. The sessions are presented in a way that meets them right where they are. They are encouraging, challenging, and life changing because they focus on bottom line issues and God’s amazing, unconditional love for them. It’s more than a weekend of speaking sessions and all they may learn from listening. It’s a getaway experience that’s unforgettable. Throughout the weekend, it’s like the girls allow themselves to become vulnerable before the Lord. They are captivated by His love. There is not a girl, no matter what her background, home life, or personality may be, that does not need the assurance of her Father’s love.

Can you tell me a success story of a teen girl who has been impacted by this ministry?

Response: There are hundreds of stories. God has moved in girls’ lives in incredible ways. From girls who have struggled with eating disorders, dysfunctional homes, and drugs-- to girls struggling with attitudes, self-esteem issues, and past hurts, hearts have softened and God has shown hope and direction through these conference events. I think of a teen girl who attended several of our events. She came from a difficult home life with no affirmation of all the gifting God has instilled in her. Through the In Search of a Princess Ministry, she came to know her heavenly Father intimately. Now many years later she mentors other teen girls on these issues. Another girl that comes to my mind is a teen that greatly struggled with her self-esteem. I’ve never seen such a change. She left the weekend with a new perspective of God and His love. She went from depressed and feeling rejected to being confident and assured of her worth. Her parents were amazed and overwhelmingly grateful at what God had done in their daughter’s life in one weekend. God continues to work in and through her. She has even joined us on our volunteer leadership staff.

Why would a youth leader or parent want their teen to attend a Walk The Talk Conference weekend?

Response: Every pastor and Christian parent desires their teen girls to live life in confidence and hope of who God made them to be. These weekends inspire teens to find their true identity in Christ. Teens are given new hope and specific direction on how they can do this. They are drawn to God’s heart and His answers. They will be personally drawn to relationship with God as they evaluate their own lives and as they begin to understand how God truly sees them—as His princesses.

How do you see the conference impacting girls after the weekend?

Response: Days, weeks, even years after a conference event, we have received numerous responses through email, phone calls and letters. We are blown away by the comments of how their lives were altered during the weekend they attended. It has been amazing to see life changes continuing throughout the years. It’s proof that God is working deeply in the hearts – way beyond our understanding.
